Forgotten Sports Cars of the Last Few Decades

Supercars are designed to be a symbol of highest automotive technology. Unbelievably fast and expensive, they are something that everyone dreams of having. However, what people fail to realise is that there are more to supercars than looks and speed. There is a specific chain of command in the world of supercars, a selected group of car designers that control the memory of the cars. When it comes to the performance, Lamborghinis, McLarens, and Ferraris are some of the companies that build the massive motoring machines; however, despite having the looks, speed and design there are many supercars that have been overlooked. Bugatti Veyron is one of such underrated supercars that deserve a spot in the supercars list. Here are some other cars that have been forgotten over the years.

  1. Acura NSX:

The Acura NSX has a design of a supercar, a great performance level of a machine and can do whatever a supercar can. It was launched in 1989 at Chicago Auto Show and it certainly created quite a stir with this launch. It has striking good looks, suspension perfected by Formula 1 marvel Ayrton Senna and mid-engined 270-horsepower. The car was too modern and powerful for the car of 1989 and it also ran along with Lamborghini and Ferrari for the next 15 years. Having said that, it always lacked the status of an Italian supercar.

  1. Aston Martin One-77

Aston Martin gained it name and fame by designing some of the best grant tourers in the world; however, it had never been able to establish its foot in the market of supercars. It all changed with the launch of One-77. An exotic modern car accompanied by aluminium construction and carbon fiber, the car was powered by a 7.3-liter V12 engine with a horsepower of 750 that could take the car from 0 to 60 in just 3.7 seconds. Its production was limited to 77, that’s why it was named One-77 and costed $1.4 million then.

  1. Cisitalia 202 GT:

Cisitalia was established by an Italian industrialist and racer Piero Dusio who wanted to put it his racing knowledge and build his own company. During the same period of time Enzo Ferrari had somewhat a similar idea and he also decided to set up his own company. But contrasting Ferrari  Cisitalia’s first car gained internal popularity. The 1946 202 GT was an avant-garde grand tourer that featured Cisitalia’s racing expertise to an unbelievably impressive way. The GT was considered such a success that the Museum of Art only bought one piece to display. Sadly the company soon went under lot of debt and was closed in 1950. By then Ferrari was a well-known brand in the market and it eventually grown into the high-performance car category that it is today as well.

  1. BMW 850CSi:

The BMW 8 Series car launched between 1989-1999 was some of the most advanced cars of that time. However, they were normally remembered as grand tourers. The then BMW 850CDi  featured highly-tuned 5.6 liter V12 apt for 376 horsepower. The car also had an aero kit that was suitable for zero to 60 times in just six seconds or less. The BMW V12s launched in the 90s was considered to have some of the best engines.

  1. Noble M600:

With growing technology, people started expecting more from the supercars, however there were a small group of people who believed that too much technology is not a good thing. The makers of Noble M600 were people of this small group. The car lacked all safety and technological requirements. The M600 ditched modern safety including traction control and anti-lock brakes just for the speed. It featured two turbos and an engine powered by 650 horsepower, which took the car’s speed from zero to sixty in just 3 seconds. While Noble may be obscure car brand, it certainly was a serious competitor for supercars.

  1. Cizeta V16T

Cizeta V16T is known for being the only supercar that was supported by a Disco legend. The Cizeta V16T was unveiled as the Cizeta-Moroder as the company gained major financial support by Giorgio Moroder, a famous music legend. This supercar was originally based on a rejected design for Lamborghini Diablo, and it featured a 540 horsepower V16 engine and built by Cizeta. As the V16T reached its production stage, it wasn’t able to pass the US safety and emission standard tests and wasn’t allowed to sell in the United Stated. This loss from the American market and the car price of $500,000 put major pressure on the company, and it was forced to close after the production of just 20 cars. Having said that, in 2009 this car was one of the most desirable supercars available in the market.

For some or the other reasons these cars never able to last. While they may not be the popular names, they were surely some of the remarkable supercars that lost its name over the time. Check out the following video to know about some more amazing sports car, that could make it big and have been forgotten over the last few decades.
